A very interesting article about organisations that do Open Source vendor free. I think there will always be a healthy mix of inhouse and commercial support for Open Source, as people often want external expertise that is too expensive to hire or maintain
I am not sure how you can have vendor free open source unless the applciation is developed internally from scratch including the operating system. All the “off the shelf” operating systems and application come from a vendor of some sort whether free, licensed or paid for.
AlphaG, exactly. That is partially my point 🙂 The article talks about vendor free Open Source as being internally implemented and supported software. Most mature Open Source applications do have vendor support, but are however available without engaging with a vendor, which is more the point of the article.
