For others interested, there are some useful statistics about Australia here (http://www.aifs.gov.au/acssa/statistics.html) which says 57% of women experience physical or sexual abuse in their lives. Half of all Canadian women have also had violence since the age of 16 ( http://www.womanabuseprevention.com/html/statistics.html). These stastics aren't as bad as South Africa (68% in 2001 - http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/women_abuse/75836) but they are all extremely disturbing and sickening statistics.
