Most mature Open Source applications do have vendor support, but are however available without engaging with a vendor, which is more the point of the article.</description>

		<description>I am not sure how you can have vendor free open source unless the applciation is developed internally from scratch including the operating system. All the "off the shelf" operating systems and application come from a vendor of some sort whether free, licensed or paid for.</description>
